| Boys and girls ages 8 to 17 showed up for the event at First
Baptist Church and took a turn driving one of the engine-less race
cars which typically hit speeds of about 30 miles per hour.

83-year-old Lamar McDaniel relaxes Saturday near the car he raced in
1938 here in Atlanta. He still has the car in his basement. He won
first place in Atlanta that year in this Atlanta
Constitution-emblazoned car. The Constitution sponsored the race in
1938. McDaniel went on to compete in the nationals in Akron, Ohio
